Pritchard Hill

Beginning in the early 1980s, Chappellet became one of the first wineries to plant cover crops to prevent soil erosion. In the years since, this early foray into sustainable viticulture has evolved to include a 20,000-square-foot solar system that offsets 100% of the winery’s energy bill, a state-of-the-art water processing system that allows the winery to return almost 100% of its process water (approx. 1 million gallons annually) for vineyard irrigation, and a robust on-site composting program that produces over 100 tons of compost annually.

Additionally, the Pritchard Hill Estate Vineyard has been certified organic since 2012, and only a modest 16% of Chappellet’s 640-acre property is under vine, with the rest remaining in its majestic natural state.
