2016 Chappellet Hideaway Cabernet Sauvignon
"The grapes for this wine are sourced from the steep slopes of the producer’s own Pritchard Hill spot at 1,425 feet. Juicy black cherry and wild berry yield to rich vanilla and oak, with ample grip and tension that lend structure. It’s simply delicious, voluptuous and lush yet complex.” 97 Points: Superb; a great achievement

2017 Chappellet Grower Collection Dutton Ranch Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
“This vineyard-designate wine offers an inviting array of white pepper, cardamom and rose petal. Layered in complex, interwoven tannins and oak, it has tension and freshness in abundance, with deft flavors of stone, plum and dark cherry.” 94 Points: Superb; a great achievement

2016 Chappellet Signature Cabernet Sauvignon
“This is made entirely from mountain fruit along the eastern hills of the Napa Valley, including the producer’s estate. It is blended with 12% Petit Verdot and 9% Malbec. Smoky oak, clove and tobacco accent red fruit and a savory bottom line of cedar and sage. It’s rich but well behaved.” 92 Points: Excellent; highly recommended

2017 Chappellet Grower Collection Cold Creek Vineyard Viognier
“This wine opens with a sweet nose of candied fruit and flowers, the texture velvety and robust in viscous intensity. A taste of apple skin and lemon lingers for awhile on the palate, with a lasting note of wet stone.” 90 Points: Excellent; highly recommended

2016 Chappellet Napa Valley Merlot
“There is 10% Malbec, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot in this wine, which represents a refined and complex expression of the grape from a mountain site. Smoky oak meets black cherry, leather, dark chocolate and a touch of dried herb—flavors that accent a balance of tannin and structure.” 90 Points: Excellent; highly recommended

2017 Grower Collection Cold Creek Vineyard Viognier
“My issue with most domestic Viognier is the general level of ripeness and alcohol, which I attribute to growing conditions for the most part. Too much is simply planted in areas too warm to deliver the high-toned aromas and fresh acidity that would remind anyone of the refreshing Viognier wines of Condrieu, in the northern Rhone Valley of France. The Chappellet is an exception, harvested from the Cold Creek Vineyard in the Carneros district, at the bottom of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. It shows refreshing, mouthwatering acidity with notes of honeysuckle blossom and persimmon, with a generous touch of spice. Bingo!” 94 Points

The 52 California Wineries You Need to Visit in 2019

“Today, California wine country stretches all over the state, no longer confined to the familiar stretches of Napa and Sonoma. If you’re taking a road trip, you’re more likely than not to happen upon a wine region. But with more than 3,600 wineries in California, according to Wines Vines Analytics, how do you choose where to spend your money, time and alcohol tolerance?"

Napa Valley
Chappellet

"One of just a few California wineries located atop Pritchard Hill in Napa’s eastern mountains that is open to the public, Chappellet would be worth visiting for the views alone. Good thing, then, that the longstanding winery produces beautiful wines, from its flagship Pritchard Hill Cabernet to an old-vine Chenin Blanc. The main winery is a striking building, cavernous and triangular. Take a vineyard tour if you have some extra time.”

2015 Chappellet Napa Valley Cabernet Franc
“This will convert any naysayers that I can think of when it comes to domestic Cabernet Franc. Pritchard Hill fruit, perfectly ripened, showing black and blue fruit, tamed herbs and mocha notes in aroma and flavor profiles. It all comes to life on a plush palate where everything floats together and hangs around until the next sip. I’d age this a couple of years for full integration of the oak tones, but fans of bright spice should dig right in. Contains 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot.” 94 Points

Chenin Blanc Shows Class on Pritchard Hill

2017 Chappellet Signature Chenin Blanc
“The aromas of the 2017 Chappellet Chenin Blanc are complex, suggesting ripe lemon, pear, melon and green apple, with a persistent non-fruity mineral note.  In your mouth the wine is nearly full-bodied and dry but fruity. Its flavors suggest vibrant lemon, lime, honey, and delicate fresh herbs, with a satisfying minerally undercurrent of flavor. The wine’s acidity is strong, giving backbone and structure to the taste, but the wine is not austere because its unctuous texture surrounds that backbone and creates richness.  And yet that acidity persists through the richness, creating a fascinating counter-play of weight and lightness. The wine’s long finish echoes the lemon and mineral flavors.” 91 Points

“I tasted a wide range of wines with Molly and Cyril Chappellet and their longtime winemaker, Phillip Corallo-Titus. Chappellet’s Cabernet Sauvignon Signature remains one of the best values in Napa Valley, while the flagship Pritchard Hill bottling has gained in refinement in recent years.”

2015 Chappellet Signature Cabernet Sauvignon
“Bright red cherry, plum, rose petal and mint notes give the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature a very distinctive and, frankly surprising, amount of freshness. Vibrant, perfumed and nuanced, the Signature is flat-out delicious. The purity of the fruit here is striking, especially at this level. This mid-weight, gracious Cabernet remains one of the very best values in Napa Valley. The Signature saw 60% new oak, about half of it American, and the rest Hungarian and American. 2020 – 2035.” 93 Points: Outstanding. 2015 Chappellet Signature Cabernet Sauvignon
"The 2015 Napa Valley Cabernet from Chappellet is a lovely showing made from 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot, 4% Merlot and 3% Malbec. It opens to inviting aromas of freshly crushed blackberries and dark cherries laced with spices, mocha, anise all taking shape. On the palate this full and voluptuous, with remarkable depth and concentration. Layers of ripe dark fruits come together with spices and violets as they build up to the long, opulent finish. Even at this early age the Signature Cabernet is extremely impressive, nonetheless should also cellar beautifully for many years. This wine consistenly delivers year after year and given its quality, it remains one of Napa Valley's finest values." 94 Points

2015 Chappellet Pritchard Hill Cabernet Sauvignon
"Also inky colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill comes from the estate vineyard on Pritchard Hill and spent 22 months in new French oak. It has a similar level of purity, as well as incredible minerality, to go with notes of crème de cassis, scorched earth, crushed rock, and graphite. Reminiscent of licking a rock with its insane level of minerality, this full-bodied beauty is tight and closed on the palate, yet is just loaded with potential. It’s only for those with cold cellars and needs forgotten for 7-8 years, but will keep for 4-5 decades. Bravo!” 100 Points: As good as it gets. These wines reach the peak of my personal scale of quality.

2015 Chappellet Signature Cabernet Sauvignon
"Looking at the two releases from Chappellet, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature is the larger production cuvee and sees 22 months in 50% new French oak. Its deep, inky color is followed by an incredibly pure bouquet of crème de cassis, hints of blue fruits, graphite, and cedar. With gorgeous minerality, full-bodied richness, building tannin and notable purity, it’s an incredible wine, as well as a sensational value.” 96 Points: As good as it gets.
