With a variety of elevations, exposures and soil types, Pritchard Hill presents a rare tapestry of growing environments. To honor this diversity, we cultivate the mountainside vineyard as 34 distinctive blocks. This includes approximately 25 different blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon, with specific clones and rootstocks selected for each. This emphasis on diversity has resulted in an expansive palette of fruit— including six different Cabernet clones.
With our clonal series, our goal is to present a deeper view into the unique attributes of the varietal clone component. For 2008 we have chosen clone 337 (which was also selected for our inaugural clonal series bottling in 2003). Capturing the softer side of Pritchard Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, with a velvety mouthfeel, vibrant aromatics and beautiful red fruit layers, this clone has become an integral part of many of our blends.

This wine personifies all of the things we appreciate about clone 337, while showcasing why it has become such an essential element in our Bordeaux blends. The nose offers enticing red fruit aromatics, with sweet, pure layers of strawberry jam, cherry and cola, as well as more nuanced elements of chocolate, leather and anise. On the palate, the clone 337 bottling is soft and round, with a broad, warm mouthfeel revealing abundant cherry and berry fruit that carries through to a long, plush finish.
Spring 2008 was extremely dry, which prompted the vines to push out early. Though daytime temperatures were picture-perfect, cold evening temperatures and some frost made for challenging conditions. Moderate, consistent temperatures continued throughout the summer, setting up excellent conditions for ripening rich, balanced fruit at harvest.
