Our 2010 Signature Chardonnay captures the essence of world-class Carneros Chardonnay, with a focus on Robert Young and Wente clone fruit from the famed Sangiacomo Vineyard on the fog-shrouded northwest edge of San Pablo Bay. The 2010 Signature Chardonnay was barrel fermented and aged on the lees for 10 months in 40% new French oak. The wine underwent 100% malolactic fermentation, and was bottled unfiltered.

This powerful, yet refined wine, captures what we love about Chardonnay. It begins with captivating citrus and tropical fruit aromas, before revealing more complex nuances of crème brûlée, warm brioche and toasted vanilla. The mouthfeel is broad and rich, with layers of ripe fruit and French oak that coat the palate. As it develops, the flavors turn towards orange peel, Meyer lemon, baked apple, warm piecrust, cinnamon and clove—all with a sense of finesse and elegance that give this wine poise and focus.
Though 2010 was one of the coldest years in the history of Chappellet, our experience from four decades of farming and our close relationships with our grower partners paid great dividends. We aggressively thinned early in the season, doing as many as two to three fruit drops. Excellent late-season weather delivered a spectacular finish for Chardonnay. Though the harvest was compact, everything came in before the rains, with the grapes showing exceptional richness, good acidity and excellent flavor development.
