Vineyard View..................................................................... by Andrew Opatz, Viticulturist, Chappellet Vineyards Its spring and things are moving! We get pretty busy at this time of year as the vines are now in full motion. Because things are moving quickly in the vineyard, we do as well. There is a lot of ground work which includes mowing, mechanical under vine cultivation, and hand under vine cultivation. There is canopy work to do such as suckering (suckering= removing unwanted shoots from the vine), as well as vineyard development and planting . All of this has to be done within a time frame, and in the correct order from block to block. So, in short, the season has arrived and it is in full swing! |
