In 2010 Molly, Luanne, Lygia, Alexa, Dominic and their children visited the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanage in Kenya. They bottle fed baby elephants and learned how they lost their mothers. Since their visit, over 100,000 elephants have been killed for their ivory.
Last year Cyril, Blakesley and Carissa spent time with these gentle giants in Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa. They were devastated to learn of the magnitude of slaughter with over 100 elephants being killed each day.
Our collective love and compassion for these iconic animals prompted us to look for a way to help save them. The goal is to help end the dramatic rise in poaching of Africa’s elephants. Partnering with four important conservation organizations working tirelessly to preserve and protect Africa’s remaining elephants -African Wildlife Foundation, The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Save the Elephants and WildAid - the S.A.F.E. campaign was the answer.
At the current poaching rate the elephants remaining in many African countries risk extinction as early as 2025. We cannot be the generation that allows elephants to disappear from Africa.
