The most sought-after wine in our portfolio, this limited‐production Cabernet Sauvignon represents the pinnacle of Chappellet winemaking, and embodies the elegant power and complexity of Pritchard Hill winegrowing. Like the great Bordeaux wines that first inspired Donn Chappellet, this wine is crafted by blending Cabernet Sauvignon with other classic Bordeaux varietals. The wine was aged for 20 months in 100 percent new French oak. Grown on our rocky, mountainside vineyards, our Cabernets have consistently displayed an ability to age for several decades.

With a remarkable level of concentration and complexity, and a sense of place that speaks volumes about our vineyards, this wine represents the very best from an exceptional vintage on Pritchard Hill. From its dark, incredibly saturated color to its intense aromas of baked blackberry, dark cherry, crème de cassis, plum and anise this wine is layered, rich and sophisticated. On the palate, notes of espresso, dark chocolate and toasted oak, support beautiful ripe fruit and spice flavors, with seamless, mouthcoating tannins adding power and longevity. Despite its epic nature, there is also a liveliness and radiance to this wine that gives it poise, precision and balance.
Though rainfall was little more than two-thirds of normal for the third year in a row, the timing of the precipitation was on the vines’ side, as late spring rains delayed irrigation needs. June, July and August were cool, but September was quite warm, which helped the fruit reach complete maturity. A large storm hit in mid-October, but all of our grapes were harvested before the rains. Overall, an ideal growing season on Pritchard Hill.
